It is difficult to predict the future prospects of CGI because technology these days are advancing so fast it is hard to tell what the next step CGI would be. On the other hand it is a given that CGI will constantly become more advanced providing more versatile. New software and new technologies overthrow the entire field every day. In the future, some people believe animation (2D, 3D) will be replaced by virtual reality.
